Because we have chickens, here's a poultry post

Five of eight; Camilla is already on the wall, the other two grabbing a quick snack before bedtime.

Yes, it's been raining. No, I have not been sewing. Yes, I have been working on a manuscript. No, it's not Home and Far Away.

LOL!

But in the interim or meantime or whatever here's an update about the hens. They are nearly full-on hens, seventeen and a half weeks old, DUDE! We've had them for seventeen weeks as of today, and as of today Camilla is the most likely to start the egg-laying parade. We've uncovered the nesting boxes, and while we can't find the golf balls purchased to entice them into investigating, these chicks seem to have pretty keen instincts for the rest of their chicken-lives. Like eating grit and coming inside before it gets dark, although coming in out of the rain seems beyond them.

Insert facepalm emoji HERE.

But back to Camilla.... Always the largest chick, pullet, almost henny-penny. First with a comb, albeit yellow while Nadia had a pink comb right off the bat. First with wattles. First to get treats, haha. First to give us an egg? Maybe! She's acquiring the submissive squat pose, and certainly likes being first on the wall, where they roost at night. First into posing? Perhaps! She wants to be queen, but she's actually a Welsummer hen.

Definitely first to pose, sweet silly Camilla.

Oh my goodness, we almost have HENS!! That's crazy!

Displaying her red facial features in this shot. Please don't peck at the poo....

These pics were snapped a couple of nights ago. Camilla squatted as I stroked her back, and I just have to wonder if one of these days I'll go out and hear an egg song. Camilla's egg song! Or maybe Nadia will be first at something besides her nimble-footed ways.

I'll be sure to let you know when there's news to share!
