I started writing a new novel today

| Ruthie the Barnevelder hen. |
A not so broody hen notwithstanding....
First an update about that hen. Ruthie is now her name, as now I can tell apart the triplets, whew! Their combs tell the tale; Ruthie has a very small comb (and wattles), while Gigi has the largest. Icey is the third, and her name is made from the initials IC, which stand for irregular comb, as Icey's comb has an odd spike in the center. Fortunately Ruthie has been a well-behaved hen for two days now, and *HOPEFULLY* that spate of broodiness won't be revisited anytime soon.
Now, about that novel.... I am still pondering how I can be ever so blessed to craft stories, especially after not writing a complete manuscript for over, ahem, two years! I finished Home and Far Away in mid December 2023, then wrote a quarter of The Enran Chronicles Book Five last June. Yet that incomplete manuscript, while not haunting, remains unfinished. The book I began today is a standalone (WOO HOO, lol...) about miracles. And it kind of feels like a miracle after a lengthy dry writing spell....
Let me say it's truly WONDERFUL being back to writing fiction. A part of my heart is so engaged in that creative process, like I'm relaying lives beyond mine, hearts and souls existing in a corner invisible to nearly all, yet I can see it like it's right in front of my face. I have often noted the muse, but at times I'm wholly honest and call it The Spirit, which is it. I write what God puts on my heart; my hands translate the prose onto a keyboard. And it's been a LONG dang time between books, and this book won't have a sequel for me to deal with, ha ha HA!
Or I don't think it will, lol.
So that's the latest; we're checking on those hens often, making sure Ruthie is among her sisters and not sequestered in a nesting box. We've enjoyed some gorgeous weather, which helps to keeping Ruthie outside with the rest, however.... A cold storm is coming this weekend, so we'll see how Ruthie reacts to time spent in the coop, if she and her sisters choose to hang out in the coop. We'll put extra straw in it, which will make them happy and act as insulation. Hopefully Ruthie will forget all about feeling broody, and I can squeeze in more writing time.
This new story is my first written with chickens in the background. Well, not the background exactly, but as inspiration. In fact, I used the names of our hens within the story, haha! Camilla appears first. She would have my head if I'd used Owl or Nadia, if she knew any better.
Which in my writing world is a little silly, but so are chickens. And that's how this ends tonight, ba-dump-bump.
