More than enough

If we give everything away, we have nothing to lose.

My BFF left early this morning, a few days of World Cup games, card games (gin rummy, which I'm hoping to teach to my eldest grandson), MUCH CONVERSATION amid football and gin rummy, and sharing last night's fireworks seated in the closed-off parking lot nearest to the Fisherman's Statue at the Woodley Island Marina in Eureka. We'd never taken her there, and she wandered over to the Fisherman, who honors those lost at sea. Meanwhile I snuggled under my Quilt of Grace as it was a marine layer evening that became a misty, breezy night as we waited for darkness to fall. Fireworks began before the ten p.m. announced start time, and were quite impressive! Only a few headed into the clouds, slightly lessening their brightness, but all in all it was a marvelous show, and we headed home grateful for the outing, and for forty-five years of friendship shared.

Cropped from a landscape shot, but a decent example of how large is the Fisherman statue....

Now it's Sunday, and my beloved husband has a sore throat. He didn't join us last night, and now I'm glad he stayed home what with the cold he's picked up, poor chap. We're watching the San Francisco Giants play the Colorado Rockies, but I'm keeping an eye on that Brazil-Norway match, nil-nil as the second half begins. For all our years in the UK, I never got into footie, nor cricket for that matter. I enjoyed the games, I mean matches, that we watched, though the way players flop onto the ground as though mortally wounded puts a damper on my embracing how graceful is soccer, as well as how few commercials mar the viewing experience. I might watch England vs Mexico tonight, rooting for England of course, LOL. I need to wash dishes, check for eggs, do my stretches. My girlfriend's impromptu holiday was an unexpected treat, but guests come, then go, leaving us to return to whatever makes up real life.

Not sure I'll incorporate football into the routine. I have five or six chapters completed of my fictional WIP, and I'll give that a read before diving back into the writing. Our grandsons are slated to arrive tomorrow, but I have yet to hear from my youngest daughter if she still wants them to hang out with us, what with Grandpa under the weather. As I wait to learn her response, I'm considering the abundance of my life, and how vital it is to keep sharing what we have because at the end of the day I don't want a trove of possessions explaining my existence.

Better to have little for others to sort, so all my hoo haa isn't hanging over their heads.

While my friend visited, we donated books to the local library; she carried a couple of bags, as did I. Lots of hands makes for less work; I included that line in The Deadfern Miracles, haha. Another friend is giving that novel a look, then I'll incorporate her edits into the manuscript, then.... I'm considering putting it out for query, because I'm feeling prompted to do so, and not fretting over what will come of it. At the very least, I'll publish it later this year, and other than that.... Giving away ebooks isn't quite like donating paperbacks, some hardbacks too, but it is in the spirit of that notion, not hording what we have for a rainy day that might emerge late at night when usually we're asleep. A decent amount of mist fell while my bestie, I, and many others awaited the fireworks. Yet this morning the ground didn't appear wet; that fog, mist, and drizzle that our weather person is fond of mentioning had evaporated into the air.

Possessions don't disappear so easily; it's up to us to gauge what we need, and give away the rest, and not always are those possession tangible items. Smiles, hugs, kind words; all those should be handed out as readily as what anyone else might need. My friend's daughter is moving, and in that process will donate some blankets to animal shelters in her area. Some of those blankets were made by my bestie. I've made and donated little cozies for kitties, and goodness knows I've sent quilts out for those in need. My bestie uses a different brand of foam earplugs than I do, and hers are SUPERIOR to mine (Hearos brand are what she uses, what I'll use now too, if you're curious). She left me a couple of pairs, which I used last night while booms exploded into bright lights in the dark night sky. I'll get a supply of my own as soon as possible, then maybe give away the unused extras I have, if someone needs foam earplugs that work okay, but aren't for those of us with severe tinnitus.

Brazil and Norway are still scoreless. The Giants have tied the game, oh wait, Rafael Devers just hit a MASSIVE home run to take the lead, 5-4. Life changes so quickly, like my beloved waking with a sore throat, the BFF's surprise visit, a home run breaking a tie, God knocking on my heart to do this, that, or something unknown. I hadn't planned AT ALL to watch fireworks, but with a dearheart's request to see those lights, why not? Why not give away all we can, trusting we'll receive exactly what we need. Not that a sore throat is good, but.... Sometimes our limited vision can't comprehend all that will benefit us. Trust, what a concept! Probably something I'll expand upon in the future.

In the interim, if you have things you never use, consider giving them away if that would help someone else. What you give away, you can't lose, lol, and if you need something else, well, according to said need, it will come back to you. The Great River, Nog called it in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The love of Christ, I smile. Either way, it's about belief in the greater good.

The greater good starts with each of us. Have a wonderful week everyone!
