Clear days, foggy evenings
Guests have gone, a quiet house this evening. Fog rolled in a couple of hours ago and my goodness it's as thick as it was early this morning. Family has landed in their respective domiciles where it's not at all marine-layer-like, lol. Funny how within one state, albeit a large state, the weather and climates can be so different.
I think I'll sleep well tonight, pondering how being close to routine still feels a little strange. Hosting several beloveds became immediately normal and now that altered normalcy is quiet, foggy, autumnal. Earlier sunsets and later sunrises get a little lost in the card game shuffle, long chats, and lots of dishes washed. Now it's truly October, very much fall, and with four molting hens to boot, lots of change occurring.

Cami and Owl are both looking scraggly, Welsummer as well, though she still has tail feathers. Camilla is hinting at the molt, what with the random feather out of place or flying as she shakes. Maybe wafting is more apt; she still appears as bossy as ever, but for how long remains to be seen. Owl has altered the most and the most quickly. By the time molting passes, daylight will be even less, so how will laying proceed? Questions only time will reveal.
Time moved very fast this past week; here it is Saturday again! Other guests are coming in ten days, friends of my husband's from high school. Yet this week it's just the spouse and me, and the chickens, and I'm hoping to crack back into The Deadfern Miracles as well as some sewing perhaps? Maybe. Time will tell about that too.
A couple of nights ago we all went to Samoa Beach, finding a very thick fog bank just as we arrived to watch the sunset. Or observe the fog as the sun sank behind it, hehehe. Yet as the sun went down, the fog over the water began to lift, not that we saw the sun much, but white clouds against blue sky was a marvel! Maybe a miracle even, ahem. We drove home, leaving the fog behind, embracing that blue sky as one day came to a spectacular close.

That all reminds me how precious is every day, whether beloveds are around or in their own realms. Whether hens are producing eggs or merely leaving feathers everywhere. Whether my right thumb is happy to crochet or grouchy as it was this morning, LOL. Whether fog crowds out the stars or the waning moon shines brightly. Every single day is something new, magnificent, educational. Full of peace if we can breathe deeply the calm that aches to enter our hearts. Pleasant even if the van door is left open, draining the battery, then said battery is charged all day. The van started right up, hurray! The fog will lift sometime tomorrow. The sun will shine until again it slips past the horizon and on and on goes this life, mountains and valleys making for moments to appreciate and pray over and tomorrow we'll do it all again.
